Porcelain 101

Lessons Learned

About

This CEU provides architects and designers a deeper understanding of advanced porcelain surfaces, including their technical performance, sustainability benefits, and impact on occupant well-being. Participants will explore porcelain’s manufacturing process, structural durability, environmental advantages, safety features, and innovative applications that enhance comfort, health, and overall user experience in the built environment.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Understand the fundamental properties of advanced porcelain surfaces, including their strength, durability, and versatility across architectural applications.
  • Examine the modern porcelain manufacturing process and its role in environmental stewardship, resource conservation, and sustainable production practices.
  • Explore how porcelain contributes to a circular economy through long-term performance, reusability, and reduced environmental impact.
  • Identify the factors that make porcelain a safe material, including slip-resistant surfaces and proper handling and installation protocols.
  • Learn how porcelain’s non-porous, hypoallergenic composition helps prevent microbial growth and supports healthier indoor environments.
